NuAire products manufactured from Polypropylene materials require special consideration for the care and use to assure maximum customer satisfaction. Polypropylene materials have many favorable characteristics, such as being resistant to many chemicals, rigid, durable, and available in many thicknesses. NuAire fabricates the Polypropylene materials in many different ways to produce a variety of products for the laboratory. Understanding about the care and use of the Polypropylene material is important.

Use of the Anesthetic Gas Isoflurane with a Biosafety Cabinet
The use of anethetic gas, Isoflurane is common in vivariums todya. There are several manufactueres of anesthetic gas systems to both deliver and scavegne the gas for routine surgical procedures. However, if the surgical procedure requires a sterile or contained environment, the procedure will most likley be performanced within a biosafety cabinet (BSC). The use of a BSC for surgical procedures offers HEPA filtered air (99.99% efficient @ 0.3 microns) for sterility. The BSC also offers containment from particulate hazards (bacteria, viruses) and may also offer containment from the anesthic gas itself, depending upon the BSC type and configuration. If gas containment is to be achieved, the BSC must be exhausted either through a hard or canopy connection.

NuAire Lab Equipment Electrical Safety
NuAire manufactures and provides products that are used in Health Care Facilities (HCF’s). Typical applications are Biosafety Cabinets (BSC’s) in pharmacies and diagnostic/pathology rooms. To assure customers that NuAire products are safe, they are evaluated and listed by Underwriters Laboratory (UL) for electrical and mechanical safety. However, some HCF personnel are misinterpreting the NFPA 99:2015 code for testing requirements of non-patient care equipment. Specifically, they are conducting an electrical leakage test and applying the patient care room requirements to a non-patient care application. This technical bulletin is intended review both UL and NFPA requirements and clarify the requirements for non-patient care equipment.

NSF History Report on Volatile Containment Air Concentrations in Type B Biosafety Cabinets
The field certification of Biological Safety Cabinets (BSC’s) as required in Annex F of the NSF/ANSI 49 class II biosafety cabinetry standard is based on the principle of replication. To assure the BSC is operating within it’s design and biological containment performance tested range, the field certifier is required to use the same test instruments and procedures as both NSF and the manufacturer have used during the biological containment testing (type testing) at NSF. This replication of both the test instruments and procedure assures the BSC user the level of containment performance established by the standard since it’s inception in 1976. However with the emphasis on replication and the use of specific test instruments and procedures, the airflow measurement results for the certification of BSC’s can be suspect for other uses. The selection of test instruments and procedures for the airflow measurement of BSC’s has always had many challenges. This is especially true of class II, type B1/B2 BSC’s that are direct connected to an exhaust system. The inflow measurement methods for these cabinets have in history been performed using many different methods.
